Joe Smith originally sent us photos of his bike in early 2008. We liked what we saw and asked for more pictures. Unfortunately Joe was down for the count with a non-motorcycle related back surgery. When Joe was back on his feet, he sent us all the pictures we needed for a full feature. Regrettably they languished in a drawer of a former employee. We dusted off the photos of Joe’s ’01 Electra Glide and are finally ready to give Joe and his daily rider their due.
Joe chose Riff Raff Customs out of Danville, CA to customize his Bagger. Scott Hultquist is an old friend of ours and has been specializing in custom bike builds and paint jobs in the Bay Area for about 15 years.
First up was a motor rebuild. The stock 88” Twin Cam was converted to a 103”. The internals consist of Head Quarters heads, Screamin’ Eagle cylinders, rods, cams and valves with SE forged pistons, JIMS roller rockers, and Crane adjustable pushrods. The fuel is now managed by a Power Commander II. Breathing is optimized by a Forcewinder air cleaner and Thunderheader exhaust. Joe’s motor now boasts 105 hp and 110 ft.-lbs. of torque, exactly where a true American Bagger should be. To handle all of that power, a Rivera Pro Clutch was installed along with a six-speed Baker transmission.
Up front, a 21” RC Components Czar wheel with a matching rotor was installed with a Performance Machine six-piston caliper. To correct the front-end geometry, it has been lowered by two inches with the help of Ness and Progressive Suspension. The rear end is equipped with Arnott Air Ride. An 18” RC Components Czar wheel has also been installed in the rear. Both wheels are equipped with Metzeler rubber. The front fender and gas tank are from Riff Raff, the rear fender is a Ness piece that has been modified by RRC. The stock bags have been stretched with Ness extensions by RRC. Küryakyn supplied the horn cover, brake pedal, shifter linkage, headlight cover and axle caps. Scott sprayed the House of Kolor black, orange, silver, gray and white paint in-house; he also performed all of the molding and graphics.
Our deepest apologies to Joe and Scott for sitting on this great daily rider, we hope that we won’t make this mistake again! For more information on Riff Raff Customs, call 925.997.7686 or visit www.riffraffcustoms.com.
