Smoke 'n Gold 7/2010

It’s not every day that your younger brother gets married. Brian Klock’s younger brother Tony got married late last summer. Brian wanted to give Tony a special gift, something he would always remember. So he got him a complete Bagger makeover. Since we are friends of both Tony and Brian, we agreed to perform the customizing in-house and let our readers see the transformation. When I agreed to the project, I remember the build list being a lot shorter than what we ended up installing. Somewhere along the way, a feeding frenzy happened and no one could control it. A one-issue project became a four-issue project, what was originally going to take a couple of months, took almost nine, and a mountain of parts were installed. In the end, Tony received a customized Bagger that was worthy of a magazine cover. He also realized how much his older brother cares about him, and for the rest of his life, Tony must buy beer for the Maverick Publishing staff.

Our first stories on Tony’s Bagger appeared in the March and April 2010 issues of American Bagger. Tony’s ’05 Road Glide received a Klock Werks Mo’Tire Kit and a Renegade Monterey rear wheel wrapped with an Avon 180mm rear tire. While the bike was apart, we sent the saddlebags to Chop Docs and had them install a set of Klock Werks bag extensions. We installed a longer Klock Werks rear fender, bag fillers, spade taillight and chrome license plate mount.

In the May 2010 issue of American Bagger, we turned our intention to the front end. Tony’s Bagger received a 21” Renegade Monterey front wheel with Avon rubber, a Klock Werks Flush Mount axle and a Progressive Suspension Fork Spring Kit. With the bike apart we were able to have the front end blacked out. The bike was starting to take shape.

In the June 2010 issue of American Bagger, we concentrated on getting as many components installed as possible. We installed a Klock Werks Wrapper front fender, Chrome Ignition Switch Cover, Custom Metal Dash with a Ness-Tech Baby Moon gas cap and a Double Back True Dual Header system with Platinum Series Revolver Slip-On Mufflers. We once again went to Progressive Suspension for their 940 Ultra Touring Shocks. Cycle Visions supplied their Illumabezel (a must have for Road Glides) and their MoFlow air cleaner. We installed a set of the brand new Brouhard Designs footboards, as well as a Saddlemen seat and a bunch of Klock Werks covers. Steel Vision Design did a great job painting all of the parts and working with our various print schedules. We were not able to show in-depth every part that we installed, but we tried to give a sense of what it takes to customize a Bagger.

Tony and Brian are happy, our readers are happy, and our shop guys are happy that the albatross is no longer around their necks. Hopefully Brian doesn’t have another brother that’s getting married anytime soon!
